Two apps disable customizable AI agents ahead of new rules
1 min read

Qwen and another app announced phased shutdowns of customizable humanlike and user-created AI agents, with some agent functions disabled on July 10 and broader services taken offline on July 15, and users losing access to agent settings and prior conversations. Both apps had offered pools of company- and user-created agents that could be tuned for tasks, personas, or roles. The timing coincides with interim measures issued in April and effective July 15 that regulate AI services simulating human personality and sustained emotional interaction, while exempting non-emotional tools such as customer service and research, and citing risks including extremist ideas, privacy leaks, health harm, and addiction.
User-customized AI agents will be disabled by mid-July.
