Cyclospora infections rise among travellers from Mexico

A health agency published data showing a sharp rise in cyclospora infections among travellers returning to the UK, with 67 cases reported between 30 April and 15 July 2026 (England 30, Wales 10, Scotland 27). Travel history was available for 52 cases, and 48 of those reported travel to Mexico, with several staying at hotels in the Riviera Maya and Cancún regions and using all-inclusive food and drink. Authorities advise strict food and water hygiene, including bottled water and avoiding uncooked berries, herbs, unpeeled fruit and salad; investigations with Mexican public health authorities are ongoing and more travel-linked cases are anticipated.
