Komnas HAM warns over repeated MBG food poisoning cases
Indonesia's National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) said repeated food poisoning incidents tied to President Prabowo Subianto's Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program are forming an alarming pattern and endangering beneficiaries. Commissioner Uli Parulian Sihombing said hundreds of students at Islamic boarding schools and other schools in Sidoarjo, Rembang, Jombang and Surakarta were affected in September 2026, following suspected MBG-linked cases in Jayapura and Semarang in August 2026. Komnas HAM recommended suspending kitchens at affected sites, comprehensive evaluations, transparent epidemiological probes, fair sanctions, remedies for victims and coordinated oversight by BGN, BPOM, police and health authorities.
