Imported eggs linked to salmonella outbreak
UK health authorities are investigating a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that has produced 207 confirmed cases between 11 August last year and 1 August this year and one associated death. Most cases are linked to food prepared outside the home, and investigations so far point to eggs imported from outside the UK, mainly used by restaurants and cafes. The Food Standards Agency says there is no evidence that UK-produced eggs are affected and advises buying British Lion or Laid in Britain eggs, cooking eggs thoroughly, and following hygiene rules while investigations continue.
