Qdoba removes jalapenos amid salmonella outbreak

Qdoba said it removed jalapeños from all restaurants while cooperating with public health authorities investigating a Salmonella Javiana outbreak linked to jalapeño peppers grown in Sinaloa, Mexico and distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. The CDC says at least 345 people in 27 states became ill and 36 were hospitalized; no deaths were reported. Cases are concentrated in Colorado and Minnesota, each reporting at least 110. The FDA is working to determine whether contaminated peppers reached grocery stores while Coast Citrus agreed to recall the remaining implicated product, and Chipotle also replaced linked peppers with product from another grower.
