Philippines and US sign P42 billion health agreement

The Philippines and the United States signed a five-year Health Strategic Objective Agreement that commits a combined P42 billion to strengthen the Philippines' response to HIV and tuberculosis. The Philippine government pledged more than P30 billion (about $492 million) over five years, while the US government intends to provide more than P11.8 billion (about $193 million) in coordination with the US Congress. The agreement aims to strengthen disease surveillance, detection and outbreak response, integrate health service delivery across disease programs, and enhance capacity to finance and manage the health sector, which could improve detection and resilience against infectious disease spread.
