Sudanese court sentences RSF leader Hemedti to death

3 min read

A court in Port Sudan has sentenced Rapid Support Forces leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) and 15 senior RSF members to death in absentia for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide linked to attacks in el-Geneina, West Darfur. The court found them guilty of killing the state governor, targeting civilians, looting property and attacking schools and places of worship, and ordered confiscation of all RSF assets while instructing authorities to seek Interpol red notices. The practical impact is uncertain because the RSF still controls large parts of western Sudan and its leaders remain beyond army reach.

Court convicted Hemedti and 15 RSF members in absentia.
