Allies warn North Korean IT workers fund weapons programs

Canada, the RCMP and ten allies issued a joint advisory warning that North Korean IT workers are obtaining remote work abroad to remit earnings to state agencies and help fund the regime's nuclear and ballistic weapons programs. The advisory says workers falsify identities, use third-party proxies, AI, VPNs and laptop farms, and prefer payments by cryptocurrency or third-party bank accounts. It lists hiring and account red flags and urges companies and states to deepen understanding and take measures; contracting or paying such workers may violate domestic laws and prompt repatriation.
