China increases maritime activity around Taiwan
Taiwan's coast guard recorded 244 Chinese civilian and coast guard vessels operating around the island in July, up from 55 in June and 30 in May, with about 60 percent identified as coast guard ships and naval vessels excluded from the count. Officials described the situation as increasingly severe, and 152 vessels were detected during the first 21 days of August, bringing the since-May total to 1,247.
