NATO jet shoots down drone over Romania
An F-18 fighter on a NATO air policing mission shot down an unmanned aircraft that illegally breached Romanian airspace early Sunday, the fourth such shootdown in Romania this year, the defence ministry said. The drone was detected by radar entering from Moldova north of Galati and was engaged by a Spanish NATO contingent at 5:01 a.m., with fragments falling in an uninhabited area between two villages. NATO said the alliance is on constant watch and the drone appears to be Russian, while related strikes in Russia and Ukraine underline broader cross-border security and trade-route risks.
