Philips wins up to US$33.7 million ARPA-H award for robotic stroke care
Royal Philips received up to US$33.7 million from ARPA-H under the AIR program to develop AI-enabled robotic automation for stroke care, working with Johns Hopkins University, Boston University and clinician J Mocco. The project will develop remote-assisted and increasingly autonomous endovascular navigation, robotic device control, image-based guidance and workflow automation integrated on the Azurion platform. The work targets expanded access to time-critical thrombectomy amid low treatment rates—only about 12% of eligible US patients receive thrombectomy and global access is under 3%—and the technologies remain under development and subject to regulatory approval.
