AFC/M23 declares Ebola outbreak over in rebel-held Congo areas
5 min read
Congo's AFC/M23 rebels declared a small Ebola outbreak over in territory they control after a 21-day monitoring period with no new cases, reporting about 400 contacts monitored and 207 samples tested in rebel-held North Kivu by mid-June. The group ran a largely separate response, publicly showcasing visits and inspections and receiving material and specialist support from Rwanda, while Kinshasa-led areas continued to record widespread transmission nationwide. Response documents note shortages of protective equipment, infection-control kits, vehicles and fuel and that the Goma lab had only two extraction kits, raising risks if cases rise or spread.
