Resident doctors threaten nationwide strike over arrears

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) issued a communiqué after its July national executive council meeting saying it will begin a total and comprehensive industrial strike at 8:00 a.m. on Monday 10 August 2026 unless the federal government resolves outstanding welfare issues. NARD, through president Dr Mohammad Suleiman and secretary Dr Shuaibu Ibrahim, listed demands including payment of 25/35 per cent CONMESS review arrears, 19 months of professional allowance arrears, salary and promotion arrears, and inclusion of omitted resident doctors in the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund. The group also pressed for safety protocols and health facility upgrades.
