Florida board bans undocumented students from state universities
Florida's State University System Board of Governors voted unanimously to bar any person who is present in the United States unlawfully from enrolling at the state's 12 public universities beginning in the 2027–2028 academic year. The decision closely follows a June Board of Education rule that barred undocumented students from the state's 24 public colleges and GED programs, and Education Commissioner Henry Mack approved a rule to block undocumented students from postsecondary career and technical education programs. The move comes after repeated but failed 2026 legislative efforts, and the system currently does not track students who are not lawfully present.
