Google backs Terradot Brazil rock-weathering project
Google has agreed its biggest carbon-removal deal, backing a Terradot project in Brazil that combines methane abatement from rice paddies with large-scale enhanced rock weathering across more than 200,000 hectares in Rio Grande do Sul. Executives said the initiative will generate one million metric tons of methane-abatement credits by 2030 and one million tons of carbon-removal credits by 2040, verified separately, and that the carbon-removal portion is ten times larger than prior rock-weathering projects. Terradot plans pilots in multiple countries in 2026 and commercial scale-up in 2028, and Google took an equity stake in 2024.
