WHO releases emergency funds to support Nepal flood response
The World Health Organization released US$150,000 from its South-East Asia regional emergency fund and dispatched essential medical supplies after flash floods in Nepal that began on 26 August and killed over 730 people with nearly 2,500 missing. WHO sent an Interagency Emergency Health Kit able to meet needs for nearly 10,000 people for three months, plus tents, masks, gloves and sanitiser, and is coordinating with the government. The floods destroyed four health facilities in Rasuwa, partially damaged two in Dhading, and left two hospitals inaccessible, raising immediate risks of injuries and communicable diseases.
