Telford hospital adopts robotic surgery to shorten patient stays
Princess Royal Hospital in Telford began using a new robotic-assisted surgical system in April as part of a wider rollout by the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust that began at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2023. In June, surgeons completed a record five robotic gallbladder operations in one day as part of a High Intensity Theatre list, alongside 11 non-robotic operations. The system is mainly used for women's health and routine abdominal surgery, and the trust says over 20 consultants now deliver robotic procedures with a goal to shift most keyhole surgery to robots over coming years.
