Minapharm to receive $16.5 million from CEPI for Ebola vaccine
Minapharm will receive up to $16.5 million from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations to develop a vaccine targeting the Bundibugyo species of Ebola, the companies said. The candidate, designed by ProBioGen, is built on an MVA platform and funding will advance laboratory work toward a Phase 1 human trial expected in Africa to assess safety and immune response. It is the fifth Bundibugyo candidate funded by CEPI, joining projects from Moderna, the University of Oxford/Serum Institute of India, Hilleman and Public Health Vaccines using diverse platforms. The outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has more than 5,600 confirmed cases and over 2,700 deaths, and WHO experts are also studying whether the approved Ervebo vaccine offers cross-protection.
