Kenya, Italy partner to build 15 new hospitals
Kenya and Italy have agreed under the Mattei Plan for Africa to build 15 hospitals across 15 counties, including 13 Level 5 county referral hospitals and two Level 6 national teaching and referral hospitals. The project names facilities such as Mombasa National Teaching and Referral Hospital in Jomvu and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, and identifies Kilifi, Mandera, Marsabit, Embu, Kisii, Turkana, Marigat and Transmara West among others. The investment aims to raise hospital capacity from Kenya’s current roughly 12 beds per 10,000 people toward international targets, strengthen referral links and extend specialised services locally.
