Iowa reports surge in cyclosporiasis cases

Iowa has identified 226 cyclosporiasis cases in 48 counties through July 30, up from 69 cases reported in all of 2025, and 47 Iowa patients reported recent international travel. Nationwide, more than 6,700 cases have been reported across 45 states since May 1, and the CDC noted over 2,500 new cases in a July 28 update with 423 hospitalizations and no deaths. Federal investigators have linked the largest cluster to iceberg lettuce grown by Taylor Farms in central Mexico, prompting a July 17 recall, and officials are probing other food or produce sources while issuing clinician alerts.
