Government to launch nationwide measles-rubella campaign
Bangladesh's health minister announced a nationwide measles-rubella vaccination campaign beginning 25 September after measles infections continued despite earlier drives. The minister said UNICEF has delivered most doses and remaining supplies are expected by 17 September; new vaccines were procured after initial stock shortages. An emergency drive from 5 April targeted children six to 59 months in 30 high-risk upazilas, expanded to city corporations on 12 April, and ran nationwide from 20 April to 20 May. Government figures show 1,002 deaths from measles or measles-like symptoms to date, and authorities say 1.4 million children were vaccinated in subsequent activities.
