Nigeria makes tertiary education ranking compulsory
The federal government has made participation in a national tertiary education ranking compulsory for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, announced by the minister of education during a meeting with the now-expanded Nigerian Tertiary Education Ranking Advisory Committee. The framework, to be funded through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, aims to improve quality, accountability, institutional performance and global competitiveness, and will provide clear benchmarks and capacity building. The 2026/2027 university ranking will begin in September, while the committee will set timelines for polytechnics and colleges and the ministry will issue formal guidelines to institutional leaders.
