Infanta mayor criticizes slow DepEd classroom construction

Infanta mayor Arnel Ruanto criticized the slow roll-out of the Department of Education classroom construction program, saying no new classrooms have been built in his town despite the government's record P1.015 trillion education budget and a P67 billion classroom allocation. He described makeshift "banlat" classrooms and a backlog of more than 100 rooms, with students using umbrellas for heat and rain. The municipal government used a construction-by-administration method and donor support to build one classroom for P1.5 million and rehabilitate others, while a Senate committee will probe the implementation of the P67 billion Classroom Acceleration Program.
