Nigeria rolls out university UniPods to commercialize research
The federal ministry of education, working with UNDP and Tech4Dev, plans to deploy about 41 University Innovation Pods (UniPods) across Nigerian tertiary institutions to move research from labs to markets. Eight UniPods are launched or set for launch and three are operating at the University of Lagos, Nasarawa State University and Michael Okpara University. Niche hubs include MineTech, Blue Economy and AgroTech, with MineTech teams mapping lithium, gold and bauxite deposits. A joint governance framework will let qualifying centres open commercial accounts and split revenue to sustain operations and fund technology development.
