Kenya expands DigiKen programme to boost digital skills and finance
DigiKen, a multi-stakeholder programme in Kenya, has about US$4.26 million in funding and co-financing and supports 15 digital innovation hubs focused on media and information literacy, digital skills, digital platform entrepreneurship and sustainable artificial intelligence technologies. The programme targets more than 20,000 public-sector officials for capacity building, plans to support 150 MSMEs and startups with half expected to be women- and youth-led, aims to reach around two million platform users and create roughly 4,500 direct jobs. UNCDF established a US$900,000 portfolio guarantee with Co-operative Bank of Kenya to cover 50% of eligible financing, rising to 70% in higher-risk areas.
