DepEd conducts national school safety drill to strengthen preparedness

The exercise included an emergency alert, calls to 911 and local police, concealed-firearm police response under safety protocols, first aid, and family reunification drills while observers from interior, police and disaster offices evaluated operations. DepEd issued new, trauma-informed guidelines developed with psychiatric and pediatric groups that prohibit hyper-realistic simulations and active aggressor role-play, and it is rolling out a new school contingency plan that adds lockout, lockdown, evacuation, reunification and site hardening measures.
