A UNICEF analysis covering 106 countries and territories found more than 171 million students worldwide had their schooling disrupted by climate-related hazards in 2025. Storms were the leading cause, affecting 109 million students, while floods affected at least 70 million and heat waves disrupted about 50 million. Three-quarters of affected children live in low- and lower-middle-income countries, and at least 40 countries experienced multiple disruptions. National examples include Pakistan, where monsoon flooding delayed the school year for more than 28 million students, and Egypt, where a khamsin storm suspended classes for over 28 million; UNICEF estimates at least $200 billion in lost lifetime earnings.
