U.N. reports thousands of civilian casualties in Ukraine war
1 min read

A U.N. spokesperson said preliminary OHCHR figures show at least 16,402 civilians, including 802 children, killed and 48,428 injured, including 2,948 children, since the start of the war, with actual totals likely higher. The spokesperson cited three large waves of Russian aerial strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities this past week, many hitting urban centers with large civilian populations, and warned that attacks on civilians breach international humanitarian law. The U.N. also noted civilians in occupied Ukrainian territories and inside Russia have been killed, and final June data will be released in late July.
