QatarEnergy buys 33 U.S. LNG cargoes for Asian buyers

QatarEnergy bought 33 spot U.S. LNG cargoes this year for delivery to South Korea, Taiwan, Bangladesh, India and Japan after it declared force majeure when Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, bottling up around 20% of global oil and gas supplies. The cargoes, sourced directly and via customers of U.S. producer Venture Global LNG, amount to about a third of a month's pre-conflict exports from Qatar and were worth roughly $1 billion, Reuters calculated; 28 have been delivered and five were en route, a sign of rapid short-term market rebalancing.
