EU designates ChatGPT Reddit and Roblox as very large platforms
The European Commission on Monday designated OpenAI's ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox as "very large" online platforms or services, bringing them under enhanced obligations of the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA). The move treats ChatGPT as a search engine and requires all three services to assess and mitigate systemic risks tied to illegal content, effects on minors, users' physical and mental well-being, electoral processes and public security. The platforms reported more than 45 million monthly users in the EU and now have four months to comply, a step regulators say could set precedent for large generative AI systems.
