Wildfire forces evacuation of NASA Madrid deep space station

A fast-moving wildfire near Madrid forced evacuation and temporarily suspended operations at NASA's Madrid Deep Space Communications Complex, where photos showed flames and smoke near the 70-meter radio dish and 34-meter antennas. The station is part of the Deep Space Network that supports over 40 missions, including Artemis, the James Webb Space Telescope and Voyager spacecraft, and NASA has shifted coverage to the Goldstone complex in California and to Australia to preserve communications. Spanish and ESA tracking stations nearby were also evacuated, authorities moved thousands of residents, and officials will assess equipment damage when it is safe.
