Pakistan names lunar rover Jinnah-1
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission officially named Pakistan's first lunar rover Jinnah-1 after a nationwide contest that drew about 4,000 submissions, seven of which suggested the winning name; a lucky draw selected 17-year-old Tayyab Karim from Bahawalnagar as the contest winner. Suparco chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan framed the rover as a symbol of national progress. Jinnah-1 is planned for deployment on the moon as part of China's Chang'e-8 mission in 2029 and will conduct scientific research on the lunar south pole. Pakistan last year launched its first home-made observation satellite from China.
Jinnah-1 will conduct scientific research on the moon's south pole in 2029.
