HD Hyundai chairman to meet Bill Gates on small modular reactors
HD Hyundai chairman Chung Ki-sun plans to meet Bill Gates in Seoul later this week to discuss deepening cooperation on small modular reactors, industry sources said. The two have expanded ties since HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering invested US$30 million in TerraPower in 2022, and HD Hyundai has been building reactor equipment for TerraPower’s 345-megawatt Natrium project in Wyoming. They signed a March 2025 memorandum of understanding on Natrium commercialization, and in May the companies agreed a Natrium Reactor Supply Framework making HD Hyundai Heavy Industries a preferred manufacturer for the reactor enclosure system. The meeting could advance Natrium manufacturing and commercialization.
