HD Hyundai supplies four ITER vacuum vessel sectors

4 min read

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries attended a Korea-ITER Fusion Day on July 22 at the ITER site in Cadarache to mark completion of the final vacuum vessel sector module assembly. The company manufactured four of the nine vacuum vessel sectors that together will form the donut-shaped vacuum vessel weighing about 5,000 tons after being placed in the tokamak pit. Each sector measures 11.3 meters high, 6.6 meters wide and weighs roughly 400 tons, and required high-precision fabrication to meet French nuclear pressure equipment rules and ITER engineering standards. The delivery advances ITER construction and showcases South Korean industrial capability.
