European summit secures €760mn Nyx contract and €20bn investments
The first International Space Summit in Paris closed with about €20bn of announced investment and 51 signed deals after two days of negotiations on European launch independence and space governance. The European Space Agency awarded The Exploration Company a €760mn ALADDIN contract covering a €310mn Nyx demonstration flight and €450mn in options, while EU leaders set timelines for Nyx docking, a lunar lander and a crewed European capsule from Kourou. The commission also moved to expand IRIS² to over 350 satellites, but the summit produced no binding governance instrument and some US firms withdrew.
ESA awarded a €760mn Nyx contract under the ALADDIN programme.
Context
European ministers had already approved a multiyear ESA budget. Summit participants sought contracts and policy steps on launch dependence and security. Next steps include an ESA meeting in Rome in December and a full council in 2028.
