Prime minister opens Number 10 North in Manchester

Prime Minister Andy Burnham will be the first prime minister to work from a new Number 10 North department when it opens in Heron House in Manchester city centre, and he plans to use the base weekly to shift decision making out of Westminster. Other ministers will also work there regularly and the government is reviving the National Economic Council to bring ministers, regional mayors including Steve Rotheram, business representative organisations and trade unions together to align devolution strategy, local growth policy and investment to create jobs and a single, coordinated plan.
