All Pakistan goods transporters announce nationwide wheel-jam strike

Leaders of the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance announced a nationwide wheel-jam strike starting Aug 8 after repeated diesel price rises, higher taxes and other government measures pushed the transport sector into financial distress. The alliance demanded diesel taxes be reduced, fuel prices be restored to their July 1, 2024 level, withholding tax on cargo transporters be cut to 2 percent, and withdrawal of a Finance Act 2026 confiscation provision. They warned freight suspension could disrupt essential commodity supplies and affect imports and exports, and said vehicles would be parked peacefully rather than block highways.
