Iran's army warned that a wider Middle East war could follow if the United States presses ahead with attacks on the Islamic Republic. Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia spoke on state television, saying that if Americans "fall for the Zionists' deception" or "move in line with them" and insist on continuing the war, particularly through airstrikes, the conflict would expand geographically. The comment came ahead of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's planned trip to Washington to meet US president Donald Trump and attend a senator's funeral, raising the prospect of heightened diplomatic tensions and increased risk of regional escalation.
