Alabama Democrats encourage crossover voting for Republican candidates

Some Alabama Democrats are urging voters to cast crossover ballots for Republican nominees in an Aug. 11 special primary created by recent redistricting, while the state Democratic chair strongly opposes that tactic. The special primary covers congressional districts 1, 2, 6 and 7 and winners will advance to the November general election. Outgoing state party vice chair Tabitha Isner urged Democrats to try to knock out named Republican candidates, while chairman Randy Kelley said Democrats should never vote for Republicans. Alabama’s secretary of state confirmed voters may vote across party lines in this special primary.
