Pakistan launches national mental health policy
Pakistan launched the National Mental Health Policy 2026-2035 at a Global Mental Health Summit on 1-2 October, with support from WHO, UNICEF and the Global Institute of Human Development. The policy aims to reach about 32.4 million people in need of mental health care in a country where only around 5% currently have access and there are about 0.19 psychiatrists per 100,000 people. Officials said the plan will focus on schools, primary healthcare and communities, and international partners highlighted expected economic returns and the need to prioritise children and adolescents.
