Over 1.5 million eggs recalled over salmonella risk

Federal regulators and Midwest Poultry Services said a voluntary recall covers 1,589,577 dozen white and brown cage-free shell eggs after routine environmental testing flagged possible Salmonella Enteritidis contamination. The eggs were packed between June 6 and July 3, bear plant code P-1950 or 840962 with Julian dates 157–184, and were sold under brands including Kroger, Brookshire's, Country Morning, Simple Truth and Sunups across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Mississippi and other outlets. No illnesses were reported, the company diverted eggs to a breaking plant for pasteurization, and consumers are told to return affected cartons for a refund.
