Canada approves Moderna trial for Bundibugyo Ebola vaccine

Health Canada has authorized Moderna to launch a Phase 1 clinical trial of an mRNA vaccine candidate targeting the Bundibugyo form of the Ebola virus, making Canada the second country after the U.K. to do so. Bundibugyo has no approved vaccines or treatments, and this year's outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has caused more than 1,700 known deaths and over 3,800 infections since mid-May. The trial will assess safety, dosing and side effects, and additional clinical phases and regulatory review would be required before any possible Canadian approval.
