Israeli doctors emigrate at nearly double rate
Researchers at Tel Aviv University found 1,369 doctors left Israel for at least a year between 2023 and 2025, a 94% increase over 2013–2015. More senior physicians are leaving: doctors aged 45 and older rose from about 100 in the earlier period to roughly 270 recently. Departures cut across specialties, with internal medicine losing 215 and surgery 188, and have raised net losses because fewer doctors return, averaging about 255 net departures per year in 2023–2024. The study warns the trend could reduce care capacity, lengthen waits, weaken training, and become harder to reverse if it continues.
