Sphere adds animatronic monkeys and 4D effects to Wizard of Oz
Sphere in Las Vegas is adding a new collection of enhanced 4D effects to its reimagined screening of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, including animatronic winged monkeys flying over the audience, additional pyrotechnics, falling scented apples, new aromas and a "Glinda Glitter" effect. The show has already grossed more than $400 million since launching last year, and tickets are on sale into early 2027. The enhancements build on existing environmental effects such as fire, falling apples and an on-site tornado, and Sphere plans further classic film projects like The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 2027.
