A U.S. federal judge in Oakland extended a pause on Paramount Skydance's planned $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery through August 17, adding time for legal challenges to play out. The extension follows a California-led coalition lawsuit arguing the deal would harm competition in film and television and a separate Writers Guild of America suit claiming it would reduce demand for screenwriting work. Paramount has warned that a prolonged delay could make the deal uncertain and cost more than $1 billion, and it has asked for a three-day hearing in August to present evidence supporting the merger.
