A Texas comptroller report released during the program's first year shows 85,344 families had accepted education savings accounts as of July 29, with more than 121,000 students on a waitlist and final numbers still pending. The $1 billion program prioritized low-income households and children with disabilities; about 68,000 participating students are low-income and roughly 24% have disabilities, while white students make up 41% of participants. Awards vary by student type, averaging $7,500–$8,000, and the results are already fueling debate over impacts on public school funding and access.
