A UNICEF analysis covering 106 countries found climate hazards disrupted schooling for more than 171 million students in 2025, about one in ten children of pre-primary to upper-secondary age. Storms affected 109 million students, floods at least 70 million and heatwaves about 50 million; Pakistan and Egypt each saw disruptions affecting more than 28 million students. UNICEF warns repeated disruptions, damaged infrastructure and displacement can deepen learning loss, raise dropout risks—particularly for girls—and reduce lifetime earnings, estimating at least US$200 billion in potential loss without stronger resilience and financing.
