Teen joins government-backed AI apprenticeship pilot
A government-backed pilot is training up to 70 young people in the North West on a three-week TechFirst AI Apprenticeship Pathway, offering practical experience in building AI tools, responsible use under human oversight, and workplace skills for participants aged 16 to 21. Delivered by IN4 Group with employers and public bodies, the bootcamp links to apprenticeship offers from companies such as JD Sports and Heinz to help move participants into paid work. The pilot will test best practice and its results will be used to shape an England-wide AI skills and early careers scheme due to roll out next summer.
Pilot trains unemployed youth in AI to support apprenticeship offers.
Context
The government launched the broader TechFirst skills programme in summer 2025. This pilot follows that work and tests an AI bootcamp model. If the pilot succeeds, results will inform a wider England roll-out next summer.
