Students stage protests across France
Student protests over teacher shortages, dilapidated school buildings and a lack of learning materials have spread from lycées in the Paris region to cities across France, forcing over 400 schools and colleges to close and prompting about 2,000 arrests. Scores of people were injured, including 40 high school principals, and officials reported school fires, petrol being splashed at a Marseille school and a torched car in Strasbourg; Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes officials estimated at least €25 million in regional damage.
