Philippine defense chief urges vigilance over China cultural exchanges

Defense Secretary Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro Jr. urged vigilance over cultural and academic exchanges with China after a SeaLight report identified Jinan University as the largest training destination for Chinese-language teachers in Chinese-Filipino schools and noted the university previously asserted that Batanes is part of China. Teodoro said China-owned academic institutions operating in the Philippines should face greater scrutiny because of potential national security risks, while adding he is not opposed to exchanges so long as foreign institutions undergo assessment and relevant agencies make recommendations before programs proceed.
